A Journey to The Top of Anatolia’s Sacred Mountain /Mt Ararat

ANATOLIA’S ROOFTOP Mt Ararat, the highest summit in Anatolia, is an extinct volcano with an elevation of  5137 m. 

She is in Eastern Anatolia, 25 km inland from the borders of Armenia and Iran, this immense, cone shaped mountain has a diameter of 40 km at its base. So, this gigantic volcano is something that you cannot easily miss and you will stay captivated. Some of the fame in the history, Marco Polo, was also very much impressed ages ago and expressed as ‘’ …there’s a very high mountain upon which Noah’s Ark is said to rest. It’s so wide and long that it takes over 2 days to travel around it. The deep snow on the summit stays year-round and none can climb to the summit’’ (around 1295 AD). The belef, which Marco Polo expressed had been perpetuated till 1829, when Parrot did the first ascent. 

 

ITINERARY

DAY 1:  Meeting at airport of Igdir and drive to Dogubayazit

We meet at the airport in Van or Agri or Igdir and drive to Dogubayazit. 

Possibility to stop in Van castle and Muradiye Waterfalls (if there is flight to Van). 

Overnight in a hotel in Dogubayzit.

DAY 2:  Trekking to first camp

We eat breakfast in hotel and than we load our all equipments to our minibus and we drive to Cevirme village or Eli village at 2200 m. 

There we stop and the luggages are loaded for the horses. We take our lunch-boxes and we start trekking to the 1. camp at 3350 m. 

Our trekking takes about 4-5 hours. In the 1. camp we drink tea and eat some sweets and we rest and wait for the dinner. 

Dinner in the camp. Overnight in the tents.

DAY 3:  Trekking to second camp

We eat breakfast and after that we prepare our luggages and take our tents. The luggages are load for the horses. We take our lunch-

boxes and we start trekking to the 2. camp at 4100 m. Our trekking takes about 4-5 hours. In the 2. camp we drink tea and eat some sweets and 

we rest and wait for the dinner. Dinner in the camp. Overnight in the tents.

DAY 4:  Trekking to summit

We wake up at 1.00 and eat something. If weather is okey we start (about 2.00 o’clock) trekking in dark to the summit. We reach the summit of 

Ararat (5137 m amsl) after 4-7 hours. We back to 4100 meters for little break and we eat something. After that we prepare our luggages and take our tents. The luggages are load for the horses. We go down to the 1. camp. In the 1. camp we rest and wait for the dinner. Dinner in the camp. Overnight in the tents.

DAY 5:  Descent from Ararat 

We eat breakfast in 1. camp. Descent to Cevirme or Eli village. Drive to hotel in Dogubayazit. 

Overnight in hotel in Dogubayazit. 

DAY 6:  

Extra Day if the weather is not good.

 

DAY 7: 

 After breakfast in the hotel we drive to airport of Igdir).
